Packing video evidence — supervisor and order review

Packing video evidence is captured at the pack station during fulfilment and stored against the order for supervisor review. Dark Store Systems shows recent clips per bench, processing states on the order detail panel, and links evidence to the pack stage — separate from optional pick-time photos. Video supports operational proof, not a damage-claims portal.

What is packing video evidence in Dark Store Systems?

Packing video evidence is stage 2 fulfilment proof — captured at the pack station (evidence type 2), not during the handheld pick walk. When an operator packs an order, the system can record video and attach it to that order for later review.

This is distinct from pick-time evidence (stage 1), where scan confirmations are the default and photo capture applies only when configurable rules require it. Packing video answers a different question: *what happened on the bench before despatch?*

Dark Store Systems does not ship a consumer damage-claims portal or a “did we ship it” self-service UI. Video is for operational review — supervisors, team leads, and procurement auditors checking fulfilment practice against policy.

How does packing video capture work?

  1. Operator packs at the station — The pack bench runs the standard packing workflow; video capture is part of the pack-station evidence path when enabled for your site.
  2. Video records against the order — Clips store as stage 2 evidence and link to the order record, alongside other pack-stage activity.
  3. Processing states appear on order detail — The OrderPackingVideosPanel shows recent clips and processing status so reviewers know when a file is ready to watch.
  4. Supervisors review per bench or per order — The packing evidence supervisor view lists clips by bench and order. Reviewers watch footage to confirm packing practice — not to adjudicate customer claims through a separate portal.
  5. Evidence joins the pick-to-pack chain — Scan confirmations from picking (stage 1) and packing video (stage 2) sit in one audit trail through to ship commit. See the pick and pack evidence guide.

Why does packing video matter for trust and procurement?

Buyers evaluating a WMS often ask how disputes are resolved without blaming individual pickers. Packing video gives a shared, timestamped view of what left the bench — useful when a customer reports damage, a missing item, or incorrect contents.

In our experience, teams that can replay pack-station footage resolve internal questions faster than teams relying on memory or partial scan logs alone. The value is operational clarity, not a marketing promise of zero disputes.

How is packing video different from pick-time evidence?

StageWhereWhat is capturedDefault behaviour
Stage 1 — PickingHandheld bundle stationScan confirmations; optional photo when rules requireScan evidence on confirm; photo only when barcode cannot be scanned

Video is not recorded on every pick by default. Do not assume universal video capture across the warehouse — pick evidence is rule-driven; packing video is a pack-station capability.

Frequently asked questions

How long does packing video processing take?

Processing states appear on the order detail panel (OrderPackingVideosPanel) so reviewers can see when a clip is ready. Exact timing depends on file size and your site configuration — check the processing indicator on the order before assuming a clip is available.

Can I watch packing video for a shipped order?

Yes — packing video stores against the order record. Supervisors can review clips from the order detail panel or the packing evidence supervisor view for orders that have completed the pack stage, including after despatch.

Is packing video mandatory?

It depends on your site configuration. Packing video is a pack-station capability (stage 2, type 2), not a universal requirement on every order. Pick-time evidence defaults to scan confirmation with optional photo rules — not mandatory video on every pick.

Is this a damage-claims portal for customers?

No. Dark Store Systems does not ship a consumer damage-claims portal or a “did we ship it” self-service product UI. Packing video is for operational review by supervisors and internal teams — dispute reduction through shared evidence, not an external claims workflow.
